Byblos by the Sea

13 April 2009 - Byblos, Lebanon Alyssa, Elly, Per and I took a taxi up to Byblos yesterday to see the souks and the ruins. This photo was taken by two nice American men, Terry and Dave, who work in Beirut training the police force. One of their wives was with them yesterday - she's visiting for just a couple of weeks. It was great to meet Americans because there aren't many tourist here these days. Terry & David told us Lebanon is on the US State Department's do-not-travel list - which I kinda figured it would be but decided not to check myself. It's such is a shame about the danger because the country is beautiful and the people are so nice and welcoming.

Hiya Ali, you DO NOT BLOG ENOUGH !!! NAWTIE, NAWTIE, NAWTIE. You knit words together so beautifully and get us hooked, "line and sinker", waiting to read the next episode and it is so long between episodes!! MORE BLOGS ALI, MORE BLOGS ALI, MORE BLOGS ALI, MORE BLOGS ALI. This is your travel companions's mum pestering your blog. You were curious as to Alyssa's heritage...yes,,? Well, paternal is English & French, Maternal is Polish & Russian (if we are going to split straws here, White Russian) Alyssa knows a little Polish (she should know more...little brat) Alyssa is a "pure" lover of animals and her one failing grace is that she is too modest, so I'll make up for that (I am entitled to do that afterall, being her mum)and let all your blogger fans know that she is a beautiful dressage rider, has represented her country overseas in the sport of dressage, has been a State dressage squad member for 7 years and was on the Australian National Dressage young riders squad for 3 years running !! Quite an achievement for which she will never brag about (but, hey, nothing stoppin me from doing it). For having imparted this information on your blog site no doubt I'll be strangled by dearest daughter when she returns home. Ali, you have no idea how happy I am (as well as Alyssa's dad is) that she has had the good fortune to have 'found' such a great travel 'mate' as yourself. Keep looking after each others backs ok... :o) I would love to meet you some day (in the flesh)...perhaps you would give us the pleasure of your company on 'land' in Australia at some time ! xxxxx's
PS; myra can be a PITA, Alyssa will know what this means. But Myra means well, she lives in a Kapok tree afterall !!!!! Kapok tree living dudes are the bestest.

Uh oh.....I can't get the hang of this stuff, I'm not an anon, it's me, Rosie, Alyssa's mum - if you do have a Facebook thingy then I'm on it as well, but as Roslyn Lipa - my maiden name - I use that because I do not want to besmirch the good name of Webb - the things I do for my husband (sigh) :o)
